Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 31, 2026
Walking With Jesus makes personalised, illustrated Bible bedtime stories in which your child is the hero. It is made by Answered Labs (“we”, “us”). A parent or guardian runs the account and decides what goes into it. This policy explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, who helps us, and how you stay in control.
Our promises
- We never sell your family’s information and never show third-party advertising.
- Your child’s photo is optional, used once, and never stored by us.
- Your stories and pictures stay private to your family. Nobody at Walking With Jesus reads them in the normal course of running the app. If support ever needs to open one, a written reason is recorded first.
- The companies that help write and draw stories may not use your family’s information to train their AI models.
- You can delete everything from inside the app at any time. Backups are cleared within 30 days.
What we collect
About you (the parent)
- Account details: your email address and name. You can sign in with Apple, Google, or an email and password. Sign in with Apple can give us a private relay email instead of your real one.
- Subscription status: whether you have a plan and which one. Payments are handled by Apple or Google; we never see your card details.
- Your device’s country setting (for example “US” or “AU”), read from your phone’s language and region settings. We don’t use GPS, location services or your IP address to work out where you are.
About your children (what you choose to enter)
- A first name or nickname, birth month and year (to work out their age), whether they’re a boy or girl, how they look (for example hair and skin colour), and optional interests.
- An optional photo, only if you choose to add one when making their cartoon avatar. See “Your child’s photo” below.
What you make in the app
- The stories, their illustrations, your child’s cartoon avatar, and anything you type to shape a story (for example a topic or a situation your child is facing).
- Simple reading activity, such as when a story was opened, marked as a favourite, or finished, so your library and reading journey work across your devices.
How the app is used
- A small number of first-party events, such as “story started” or “story finished”, stored in our own database against your account so we can see which parts of the app help families. We don’t use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
- Error reports that help us fix problems. These contain technical details only, not your stories.
Your child’s photo
Adding a photo is optional; you can always describe your child in words instead. If you do add one:
- The photo is sent once to OpenAI, which reads it only to write a short description of your child’s look (for example: “a 6-year-old girl with curly brown hair and brown eyes”).
- The cartoon avatar is then drawn from those words alone. The photo isn’t used to draw it, isn’t used for the story pages, and is never sent to anyone else.
- We never save the photo to our database, our file storage or our backups. It stays in memory only for the moment it’s needed.
- We keep that short description (a few words about hair, skin and eye colour, never the photo) with your child’s profile, so their stories describe the same child as their avatar. It is deleted with the child or your account.
- Under OpenAI’s API terms, OpenAI may keep a request for up to 30 days to detect abuse, and then deletes it (longer only if it is flagged for review). It does not use it to train its models.
We never create or store a realistic image of your child. Only the soft cartoon avatar is kept.
How we use information
- To write and illustrate your stories, and keep your child looking the same from page to page.
- To keep your library in sync across your devices and with a second parent you invite.
- To check stories and pictures are safe for children before you see them.
- To run your plan, your story allowance and any gift, creator or church code you use.
- To send reminders and notifications you’ve turned on, and emails you ask for (such as a sign-in code or a family invitation).
- To send you one welcome email when you join, and occasional “What’s new” emails about new stories and features. You can turn these off at any time.
- To keep the service working, secure and affordable, and to fix problems.
We don’t use your family’s information for advertising, and we don’t build marketing profiles.
How AI helps make your stories
Walking With Jesus uses AI services from two companies to write, illustrate and safety-check each story. When you create a story or a character, the details below are sent to them so they can make it. If you'd rather not, you can still use the Bible story library, which sends nothing about your child.
| Company | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic (Claude), United States | Writes stories in languages other than English and some English stories, and is the backup writer. Checks that requests, picture instructions and Bible verses are right and safe for children | Your child’s first name and age, the story topic, what you type about your child and family, how your child looks, and the descriptions used to draw each page |
| OpenAI (GPT), United States | Writes most English stories. Draws your child’s cartoon character and the story pictures, and checks that pictures are safe | For English stories: your child’s first name and age, the story topic, what you type about your child and family, and how your child looks. For pictures: the picture descriptions, your child’s cartoon character, their first name when it appears on a page, and your optional photo (see “Your child’s photo”) |
| Google (Gemini), United States | Read-aloud narration. This is switched off at the moment. | The story text, only when read-aloud is on |
- They work for us, not for themselves. They process your family’s details only to make your story, under their business terms. They may not use them to train their AI models, sell them, or use them for anything else.
- They don’t keep them. They may hold a request for up to 30 days to detect misuse, and then delete it (longer only if a request is flagged for misuse). Your stories are kept by us, in your library, until you delete them.
- We send only what’s needed. Never your email address, payment details or exact location.
- Read-aloud. Before we switch it back on, we will make sure Google may not train on story text, and we will update this page.
- Changes. If we add or change an AI company, or change what we send, we will update this page and its date first.
Who can see your family’s stories
- Your family. You, and a second parent if you invite one on a Family plan.
- Not other families, churches or creators. If a church gives your family stories, the church can see your email address (they provided it), whether you’ve joined, and how many stories you’ve made. They never see the stories, your children or anything you typed. Creators whose gift code you used see only anonymous counts.
- Our team, only to help. Our internal dashboard shows numbers, not stories. A story’s words and pictures, a child’s name and what a parent typed stay hidden until support opens that one story to fix a problem or answer your request. To open a story, they must write a reason. The opening is recorded and closes by itself after 30 minutes. Internal alerts never include story content or children’s names. Access to our systems is limited to the founder and protected with two-step sign-in.
Companies that help us run the app
We share only what each one needs to do its job. They process it on our behalf under their own terms and may not use it for their own purposes.
| Who | What they do | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Our database, sign-in and file storage (hosted in Singapore) | Your account and everything in your library |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Writes stories in languages other than English and some English stories (and is the backup writer); checks requests, illustrations and Bible verses are safe and right for children | Your child’s first name and age, the topic, what you typed, how your child looks, and the descriptions used to draw each page |
| OpenAI | Writes most English stories; draws the avatar and story pages; reads an optional photo into a description; checks pictures are safe | For English stories: your child’s first name and age, the topic, what you typed and how your child looks. For pictures: page descriptions, cartoon avatars, a child’s first name when it appears on a page, and the optional photo (used once, as above) |
| Google (Gemini) | Read-aloud narration, when that feature is switched on | The story text |
| Apple, Google and RevenueCat | Sign-in, payments and subscription status | Your account ID, email and name, and your purchases |
| Expo | Delivers push notifications you’ve turned on | A device notification token and the message text |
| Branch | Carries gift and referral codes through links and installs | Technical link and device information. Never child profiles or stories |
| Resend | Sends our emails: family invitations, one welcome email, and occasional “What’s new” updates | Your email address, first name and app language, and whether you’ve turned updates off |
| Cloudflare (R2) | Stores our encrypted backups | A copy of our database and files, kept for 30 days |
| GitHub | Runs the nightly backup job | Data passes through while the backup is made; nothing is kept there |
| Vercel | Hosts this website and our internal dashboard (United States) | Website visits; the dashboard shows numbers to our team as described above |

Where your information is kept
Our main database and files are hosted in Singapore. Some of the providers above process data in the United States and other countries. Wherever it goes, it is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest, and our database only lets each account read its own family’s data.
Your pictures are private. Your child’s avatar, story illustrations and read-aloud audio can only be opened from inside the app by a signed-in member of your family, through links that expire after an hour. A copied or forwarded picture address doesn’t work for anyone else.
How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep your library so it’s there when you come back.
- When you delete a story, a child or your account, it is removed from our live systems straight away, including the pictures.
- Backups are kept for 30 days, so anything you delete is gone from them within 30 days.
- Inactive accounts: if an account isn’t used for 24 months, we’ll email you a warning and then delete it if you don’t sign in.
- What we keep after deletion: to stop the free story allowance being reset by deleting and re-creating an account, we keep a one-way hash of your email and a random ID stored on your device, together with a count of free stories used. These are not linked to your name, children or stories. On iPhone the random ID can stay in the secure keychain after the app is uninstalled. We also keep the IDs of deleted items, with no content, so an offline device can’t bring them back.
- Apple, Google and RevenueCat keep purchase records as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
- Edit or delete any child, story or avatar at any time in the app.
- Delete your account in the app: Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, every child profile, story, illustration and avatar.
- Get a copy or ask a question: email support@wwj.app to request a copy of your information, a correction, or deletion. We’ll reply within 30 days.
- Notifications and reminders are off unless you turn them on, and you can turn them off at any time.
- Update emails: turn them off in the app (Settings → Email me new stories & updates) or with the unsubscribe link in any update email.
- Subscriptions are managed in your Apple or Google account settings.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the Australian Privacy Act or US state privacy laws), you may have further rights, including to object or complain to your local data-protection authority. Email us and we’ll help.
Device permissions (all optional)
- Camera and photos: only if you choose to add a photo for an avatar.
- Notifications: only if you turn on reminders or family notifications.
- Face ID: only if you turn on the optional app lock.
Children’s privacy
Walking With Jesus is used by a parent or guardian (18+) on behalf of their children. Children don’t create their own accounts, there is no chat with strangers, and there is no behavioural advertising. A parent controls every child profile and can delete it at any time. If you believe a child has given us information without a parent, email us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect.
